Read for the Record 2013

Tanner Williams Elementary celebrates Read for the Record on Thursday, October 3, 2013. Faculty and staff dress as the people in the story, Otis by Loren Long. You can see the farmers, townspeople, children, animals and tractors that were here to celebrate. The school members gather in the gymnasium to read aloud as the story's e-book is projected on the stage. Dr. Reeves read the story and faculty and staff acted-out events. Please have a look at the photos from this nation-wide celebration of reading! Thank you Tanner Williams Elementary's PTA for providing apple slices, haystacks, and tractor wheels for every student at our school! Students rotated through stations to extend the story. Community members brought tractors of various sizes for students to explore. They also talked with students about the tractor and the ways it is used on the farm. A local 4-H student talked with students about preparing her show calf for the fair. Just like Otis, her calves will try to compete for a blue ribbon at our local fair in Mobile and later at the state fair in Montgomery. In addition, our red barn served as the backdrop for class photos of this special day. For more information on Jumpstart's Read for the Record, click the link.
