Tanner Williams Elementary students read over 74 million words
Tanner Williams Elementary Fourth Annual Accelerated Reader Assembly
It is our pleasure to announce the royal readers of Tanner Williams Elementary School. Our students have exceeded our reading expectations by millions. The students were honored on Monday, May 10, 2010. The millionaires at Tanner Williams Elementary School were pampered for a day. The boys were dressed in formal tuxedos donated by Francia's Formal Wear. The girls were pampered by a hair stylist and even had a little make-up applied.
During a school assembly, our reading millionaires were presented to the school community and were recognized for their reading accomplishments. The millionaires entered down a red carpet and were our celebrities. In order to earn this distinguished title, each student must have read more than 1,000,000 words in one school year. The students receive gifts from the school and local businesses. Our Partner in Education, Tanner Williams United Methodist Church, hosted our royal reception for our millionaires and their guests.
We had a day of celebration in order to reward our students for their efforts, determination and commitment to reading. We honored over 170 students for meeting fourth quarter AR goals. Over 140 students were recognized and rewarded for meeting AR goals all four quarters. These students received tickets and prizes from the Mobile Bay Bears as well as a "splashing" party including a large water slide and refreshments. The students at Tanner Williams Elementary are excited about reading. Way to go students! You read and comprehended over 74 million words during the 2009-2010 school year!
